These are just a few tips of the trade that may help you when you work with fonts. I'll try to add more tips in the near future. If you have a question or suggestion, feel free to drop me a note.

So often, I see things done with type that make my skin crawl. Here are a few things you can do to avoid some common "mistakes" when dealing with the use of fonts.
For the most part, the use of ALL CAPS should be avoided. Visually, type in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is more difficult to read. Often, people will not only use all caps, but they will use them with a Script Font. Here is Lavishly Yours in all caps.
Notice that the same font in Upper and Lowercase is so much more readable.
Ever use dropcaps? Some people make the mistake of simply making the dropcap larger. Try spicing it up a bit.

Above is the use of a dropcap "T" with no manipulation or style change. The "T" rises above, and is distant to the "h"... it needs to be kerned , at the very least (kerning is the manipulation of letter spacing to avoid gaps in white space or crashing of characters). Below you can see how I changed the "T" to Lavishly Yours, and then lowered it's baseline and centered the next two lines under the first two to give the whole image a sense of unity.
